Installation

For 25 years in Los Angeles I have worked primarily as an art installer. I began doing installations in 1998 while working for a company in Culver City. Almost simultaneously, I started working as an independent contractor as well, mostly hanging photographs for clients in Pacific Palisades. Over the following years I worked for other art companies and for several L.A. galleries, and I expanded my client list to include hundreds of artists, collectors and businesses across Southern California. I have hung about 20,000 pieces in that time.

Packing

For protection, for storage, for cargo, for transport across town or across the world, I’ve been packing art for decades. I’ve packed more pieces than I put on walls. The availability of large 4-mil plastic bags and cardboard sheeting has made high quality art packing quicker and easier than ever before. Double-cell boxes have made three dimensional pieces, glasses, and ceramics, simple to pack. I carry folding tables and a broad range of materials, and I can pack in a hurry. In SoCal you have to; I’ve worked with a number of clients having to deal with floods, slides, fires, and smoke.

Transport

At the same time I began working in Culver City, I started driving bobtail trucks. I’m still doing it today. It’s a fact: almost all art installers are truck drivers. Just recently, from 2016 through 2019, I drove a bi-monthly art shuttle to and from San Francisco, covering about 100,000 miles in that time. If you need someone to move a house full of art, or bronze sculptures, business signage - or just a couple pieces from your aunt’s place…? A new mirror you got from Z Gallerie? I’ve got you covered. Sprinter vans are readily available to rent at affordable prices. Moving art is now easier than ever.

Composition

‘Composition’ entails knowing where - on which walls, or in what spaces - art pieces will look their best. It’s usually something that takes years of installation to understand. The ability to walk into a new house, or into an empty business space, and make strategic decisions about where specific pieces will have the desired effect is an art itself. Composition also entails making suggestions about the size, color, and style of art that would best finish a project or installation. It’s a cross between interior design and gallery installation.
